Discover the television opportunity hidden inside a proven back catalogue

Zig Zag Productions has spent more than 25 years creating factual, entertainment, documentary and sports programming for broadcasters in the UK and internationally.

Now, a proposed 10-part television slate could give proven programmes and archive material a new commercial life.

In this free 30-minute recorded briefing, we explain the opportunity, the programmes involved and how eligible private investors may be able to participate.

Free to register. Intended for qualifying private, professional and international investors. Capital is at risk.

The simple explanation

First, what does “reversioning” actually mean?

Television production companies can accumulate hundreds or even thousands of hours of valuable programmes, interviews, stories and archive material.

Reversioning involves selecting material from that catalogue and using it to create newly packaged programmes, often with a fresh narrative, updated commentary, new graphics and a clearly defined theme.

Put simply, the starting point is not an empty page.

It is an existing body of professionally produced television content that can potentially be reorganised and introduced to new audiences, broadcasters and territories.

That does not remove the normal commercial and investment risks. But it creates a very different proposition from financing a completely unproven programme from the beginning.

Existing content

Material drawn from programmes that have already been professionally produced.

New packaging

Archive and programme material selected and organised into a new 10-part themed slate.

New commercial opportunity

The completed programmes can potentially be offered to broadcasters, platforms and distributors, subject to rights, licensing and commercial agreements.

Programme titles, episode composition and final content remain subject to production, rights, editorial, commissioning and distribution decisions.

Why this caught our attention

This is the part we found interesting

Most people assume every television investment begins with an idea, a presenter and a blank screen.

This proposed slate begins somewhere else.

It draws upon an extensive catalogue of professionally produced television content covering subjects that have already demonstrated their ability to attract audiences.

The proposition is not simply, “Will someone like this idea?”

The more useful commercial questions include

  • 01What content is already available?
  • 02What rights can be used?
  • 03How efficiently can it be reversioned?
  • 04Who could acquire or distribute it?
  • 05What revenues could the finished programmes generate?

Those are the questions the private briefing is designed to explore.
